CAIR Coalition is proud to join 138 national, state, and local advocacy groups in opposing S. 1814, the “Stop Sanctuary Cities Act.”, a reactionary bill introduced by Senators David Vitter (R-LA), Jeff Flake (R-AZ), and John McCain (R-AZ). This bill would force law enforcement agencies to face a dangerous dilemma: choose to unlawfully detain individuals and violate the Fourth Amendment or incur a loss of government funding and keep the trust of the people these agencies work to protect. This type of policy discourages immigrants from contacting law enforcement when they are facing an emergency.
