What CAIR Coalition Does: Working With Immigration Detainees CAIR Coalition is the only organization working with individuals detained by DHS in Virginia and the Washington metropolitan area. Through its Detention Project, CAIR Coalition provides legal rights presentations at remote county jails in Virginia, providing advice and assistance to individuals detained by DHS, and advocates for systemic reform on their behalf. When possible, CAIR Coalition secures legal counsel for immigration detainees being held in the Virginia and Maryland detention facilities that we serve. CAIR
Coalition also assists detained asylum seekers in finding legal
representation, both at their Credible Fear Interviews, Reasonable Fear
Interviews, and throughout their Immigration Court proceedings. Organizing CAIR Coalition and Local Liaison Meetings CAIR Coalition
sponsors monthly coalition meetings that
bring together community groups, immigrants, pro bono
attorneys and government representatives to increase the
knowledge, skills and impact of member organizations so
that they can best meet the needs of the indigent immigrants
they serve. CAIR Coalition also facilitates monthly meetings Training CAIR Coalition holds
annual trainings on asylum law, cosponsored
CAIR Coalition,
in consultation with its members, submits
comments on DHS-proposed regulations and policies, and
works with other advocates to formulate legal strategy. CAIR Coalition
provides representation to detained pro se
immigrants with cases before the Board of Immigration
Appeals (BIA). This project is a collaborative effort of
CAIR Coalition, the Executive Office for Immigration |
