What We Do

The Capital Area Immigrants’ Rights Coalition strives to ensure equal justice for all immigrant men, women, and children at risk of detention and deportation in the DC metropolitan area and beyond.

Detained Adult Program

The Detained Adult Program helps detained immigrants learn to understand the Immigration Court and deportation process so they can make better informed decisions about their cases. We also help people connect with pro bono attorneys if they are unable to pay for an attorney to represent them. Our goal is to help families stay together and out of harm’s way.

Detained Children's Program

The Detained Children’s Program provides free legal services to unaccompanied immigrant children detained by the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) at juvenile facilities in Maryland and Virginia.  Each year, CAIR Coalition typically serves around one thousand detained immigrant children.

Immigration Impact Lab

The Immigration Impact Lab ("the Lab") is CAIR Coalition’s federal courts impact litigation program. The Lab team seek to reduce the disproportionate legal injustices immigrant adults and children at risk of detention and deportation face by expanding cutting-edge impact litigation to engender systematic change through legal precedent that benefits broad groups of immigrants.
