CAIR Coalition Statement Condeming Deportation Flights to Haiti and Horrific Violence by Border Patrol

Esta página en español

We at the Capital Area Immigrants’ Rights Coalition condemn the Biden-Harris Administration’s deportation flights to Haiti and the horrific violence by Border Patrol agents on horseback against Haitian asylum seekers who come in search of safety at the United States’ Southern border.

This deplorable treatment of Haitian people who come seeking security is just the latest in a long history of anti-Black immigration policies perpetuated by the United States - a history that is firmly grounded in centuries of anti-Black violence.

There are thousands of Haitian people who are currently trapped along the Southern border, where they face violence, not only at the hands of the United States government, but also by being forced to remain in Mexico, where they face persecution and extreme conditions. Haitian families are trying to pursue their legal right to seek asylum, but are being forced back to danger because of Title 42.

It remains unconscionable for the Biden-Harris Administration to continue deporting infants, children, and adults to the dangers of environmental and political upheaval in Haiti. It is long past time for the Administration to put an end to Title 42. Every one of our Haitian neighbors deserves access to the life-saving protection asylum is meant to provide, to be met with dignity, and to be welcomed into safety.
