Toledo-Vasquez v. Garland

Referencing Velasquez v. Sessions, the Court held that asylum does not apply to private and purely personal matters, especially when the nexus of persecution involves a persecutor who is also a family member. In addition, the Court concluded that Toledo-Vasquez’s family membership to her sister was superficial and merely incidental to the persecution she experienced from her sister’s husband, and this was not enough to meet the nexus requirement.
