If you're horrified by recent headlines of the plight of migrant children and families, please come out to support a fundraiser for The Capital Area Immigrants' Rights Coalition(CAIR). Seeking asylum is not a crime, yet this Administration has manufactured a crisis at the border by needlessly detaining migrant children and families in private prisons under deplorable and unacceptable conditions. We need policies that respect the humanity of each person presenting themselves at the border and puts an end to the needless prosecutions of migrants legally seeking asylum. This makes the work of local organizations like, the CAIR Coalition, essential because they provide legal services to individuals who are either detained, detained and separated from family, and/or facing deportation.
Shaw's Tavern (520 Florida Ave NW) has agreed to host us and pledged to support the fundraiser. We have a goal of raising $5,000 this year! You'll be able to purchase wristbands in advance or at the door starting at $11. Depending on the tier of wristband you purchase, you'll be eligible for raffle prizes made possible by local businesses in support of this fundraiser. The wristbands, regardless of the tier, will allow you to take advantage of special drink and food specials Shaw's Tavern will be offering.
