Poetry with a Purpose with Aracelis Girmay

Orange box with words "Poetry with a purpose sign up by April 10!" and a yellow feather on the left side

April is National Poetry Month—and this year we're celebrating Poetry with a Purpose with Aracelis Girmay, who will join us for a virtual reading and Q&A on April 29th!

Join our Poetry with a Purpose book club as we spend the month with Aracelis Girmay's poetry collection, The Black Maria! This collection centers on recognizing the lives of Eritrean refugees, particularly the people who lost their lives in their search for asylum, explores African diasporic histories, and investigates the consequences of anti-Blackness in immigration policy, in the United States and beyond.

Over the course of the month, book club participants will receive weekly reading guides, to accompany their own personal reading experiences with The Black Maria. Then, at the end of the month, we'll come together in conversation with Aracelis Girmay on April 29th at 6:00PM EST for a virtual reading and Q&A!
