 Join us for our annual
Focused on Freedom Awards Ceremony and Reception!

We are pleased to invite you to CAIR Coalition’s annual Focused on Freedom Awards Ceremony and Reception!  This year, CAIR Coalition is thrilled to once again gather in-person, in community with supporters from across DC, Maryland, Virginia, and beyond! After two years of celebrating our generous supporters and partners in a virtual space, we look forward to coming together to say thank you to all who have joined us in sharing their commitment to justice for immigrant children and adults threatened with detention and deportation.

The evening provides us with an opportunity to honor our champions, including our pro bono advocates, leaders on Capitol Hill, individual donors, and committed law firms that provide millions of dollars in pro bono legal services on an annual basis. Join us for a cocktail reception, awards ceremony, and live entertainment. We hope to see you there!

2022 Detained Adult Champion Awardee:

Baker Botts Logo

Baker Botts continues to be a great partner of CAIR Coalition for over six years. Their firm has taken over 16 pro bono cases, including full-scope, direct legal representation. Their staff have been instrumental in helping to advance CAIR Coalition's mission by serving on our Board of Directors, Legal Advisory Committee, and being a leader in our annual Spring for Justice campaign.

2022 Detained Children's Champion Awardee:

Paul Hastings Logo

Paul Hastings LLP has demonstrated outstanding dedication to children in detention. Since 2009, their firm has taken on 33 pro bono cases, including during the early part of the COVID-19 pandemic, when there was so much uncertainty, especially for individuals in deportation proceedings. Since 2019, they have taken on six Special Immigrant Juvenile Status cases, a crucial step in a youth's pursuit of a stable and secure future. We appreciate the enthusiasm of their staff who take on CAIR Coalition-referred cases!

2022 Impacting Justice Awardee:

Morgan Lewis has gone above and beyond to develop impact litigation in defense of due process rights. We have been partnering with their firm since 2013, taking cases involving children and adults, along with program/impact cases. Most recently, they were instrumental in Arevalo Quintero v. Garland, which led to the landmark decision that bolsters due process for all people in immigration proceedings, especially those who must proceed without the benefit of counsel.

2022 Community Advocate Awardee:

Immigrant Justice Corps (IJC) has been a long-term partner to CAIR Coalition. Since our partnership launched in 2018, we have hosted 11 IJC Fellows. In 2020, our collaboration led to the launch of the "Access to Counsel Initiative" to provide representation to all Prince George's County residents who are detained without representation. We are grateful for the passion that the IJC Fellows bring to this work and for having the largest cohort of fellows assigned to a host site.

2022 Congressional Champion Awardee:

Congressman Beyer continues to advocate on behalf of the immigrant communities in Virginia and beyond. From his commitment at the national level to pass comprehensive immigration reform and the DREAM Act and advocate for the improvement of living conditions for immigrant children in government custody to locally pushing for the reunification of separated families and participating in our “Eyes on ICE” panel in Spring 2021, we are proud to have Congressman Beyer as a partner in the ongoing fight for immigrant justice.

2022 Lifetime Advocate Awardee:

Larry Schneider has generously given CAIR Coalition his time, wisdom, and unwavering support for over two decades. He has represented our clients, helped to launch the Immigration Impact Lab, and continues to chair our Legal Advisory Committee. Larry has been a force for good for immigrants in many other ways – volunteering with various immigrant advocacy groups, mobilizing the immigration pro bono practice at Arnold & Porter, and being a leader for systemic change in the immigration court system. We are grateful to have had Larry on our side for so many years and look forward to working with him for many more. There is no one more deserving than Larry for our inaugural Lifetime Advocate Award.
