Who We Are:

Capital Area Immigrants’ Rights (CAIR) Coalition seeks interns who are passionate about public interest law and immigrants’ rights to join our Pro Bono Coordinating (PBC) team.

The mission of CAIR Coalition is to serve as the primary source of legal assistance for detained immigrants in the D.C. metropolitan area. We are dedicated to providing free legal services to immigrants facing deportation in ICE and ORR detention facilities in this area. We do this through a mix of in-house representation and external placement and mentorship of cases with pro bono attorneys from law firms and corporate legal departments.

Internship Description:

This internship offers exposure to immigration law, a deeper understanding of the nuts and bolts of nonprofit legal practice, and an opportunity to build relationships in both the immigration nonprofit and law firm/corporate spaces. This internship also presents a unique opportunity for cross-program collaboration with all of CAIR Coalition’s legal programs: the Detained Unaccompanied Children’s Program, the Detained Adults Program, and the Immigration Impact Lab. We also work closely with our Communications and Development teams. A PBC team intern thus gets a holistic view of our organization. We are currently accepting applications for Spring 2021. Our Spring Internship Program requires a commitment of at least 12 weeks, starting on Tuesday, January 19, 2021. Part-time and full-time positions are available.

Internships are unpaid; however, CAIR Coalition can assist students seeking internship credit.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, interns will work remotely.

Current law students and recent law graduates are likely best suited for this internship because it involves substantial legal analysis, but nontraditional or other applicants, including undergraduate students, are also welcome to apply.
