STATEMENT BY CAIR COALITION ON THE SUPREME COURT DECISION ON DACA

Esta Página en Español

Today, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled against the Trump administration in its efforts to end Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). CAIR Coalition is so relieved and happy for our community and the many DREAMers who have been waiting in a state of anxiety for this decision. Justice rules for them, but more than that, this decision finally acknowledges the humanity, which existed all along, of the many young people for whom home is here. This decision would not be here today without years of action by incredible organizers and community-members.

The trauma that our community and specifically DREAMers have undergone while waiting for this decision is immense. We as an organization and a community are prepared to continue standing behind DREAMers and their families as they continue to be affected by the insecurity of the DACA program. We are hopeful that this ruling is a first step in a much-needed long-term change to our immigration system. With this finding that the administration’s decision-making is arbitrary and capricious, we hope our leaders realize that targeting DREAMers, asylum-seekers, and TPS holders in racist and discriminatory actions will not be tolerated. This isn’t the last fight with the current administration, and we are prepared to keep fighting. We celebrate today and are ready to celebrate again as we take firmer steps towards concrete safety for our community!
