Austin joined CAIR Coalition in 2018 as a legal assistant to the detained adult program, conducting direct representation support and legal research. Austin works specifically with detained adults from Baltimore, Maryland, where the County government and CAIR Coalition are collaborating to provide free legal representation to immigrants under a universal representation model.
Prior to joining CAIR Coalition, Austin worked as a legal assistant for an organization in Denver, CO that helps prevent immigrant wage theft. He also served as a legal assistant for Legal Services of Eastern Missouri, where he helped to represent low-income persons in the St. Louis, MO area. Austin holds a B.A. in Public Policy and International Studies from the University of Chicago, where he served as a student advocate for refugee rights and conducted policy research on public assistance programs in the United States.
