Helena Guerra

Direct Rep Legal Assistant

Prior to working with CAIR Coalition, Helena pursued her passion for immigration law by working with immigrant children at Kids in Need of Defense, primarily focusing on asylum and Special Immigrant Juvenile Status.

Helena also worked with victims of domestic violence at Catholic charities in DC, where she assisted victims with U visa and VAWA applications; and placed cases with pro bono attorneys.

Following her passion for social justice, Helena worked with homeless people at the Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless where she assisted clients with applications for benefits, appeals and referrals.

As a graduate student, she interned at Kids in Need of Defense, where she conducted in-depth client intakes, created memoranda of law providing case analysis and drafted hearing outlines and questions for direct examination of witnesses in ex-parte child custody hearings. Additionally, Helena assisted LPRs filling out naturalization forms and requests for fee waivers in the Citizenship Day events promoted by AILA and CARENCEN.

Helena earned her LL.M. from The George Washington Law School, and J.D. from the University of Lisbon (Portugal).

When Helena is not at the office, she is traveling the world with her husband. Helena visited more than 60 countries and 47 US states.
