Nubia Fimbres

Legal Assistant

Nubia joined CAIR Coalition in 2019 with the Detained Children's Program. She conducts Know Your Rights presentations and legal screenings to detained children being held at Office of Refugee Resettlement contract facilities in Virginia. She also maintains CAIR Coalition's database, runs data reports, and assists with post-release services.

Nubia recently graduated with a Distinction from Trinity College Dublin with a Master of Philosophy in International Peace Studies. Her dissertation, Human Trafficking and Smuggling Along the U.S-Mexico Border aimed at discussing migrant vulnerabilities as a result of strict border enforcement. She hopes to use her experience to focus on issues relating to border policing abuses, the detention of children and families, and the effect that deportations cause on deeply-rooted long-term US residents, and other human rights issues. She also holds a B.S in Biology from the University of Arizona and is a native Spanish speaker.
