Senior Direct Rep Legal Assistant
Rocio joined CAIR Coalition as a legal assistant in July 2018. She provides “Know Your Rights” presentations and legal screenings to detained youth being held at Office of Refugee Resettlement contract facilities, as well as post-release services.
Prior to working with CAIR Coalition, Rocio pursued her passion for immigration law by interning at the Loyola Immigrant Justice Clinic (LIJC) in the Loyola Law School, primarily focusing on asylum and naturalization casework. Following her passion for improving children’s education, she was an AVID tutor at El Monte High School where she mentored students interested in pursuing higher education and provided academic support in core subjects. As an undergraduate, she served as a Public Policy Intern for the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF), where she assisted staff attorneys in conducting policy research and advocating for substantive changes in three key areas: immigration, education, and employment.
She remains involved with organizations with similar goals of providing legal services and demystifying and improving access to higher education. Rocio is a recent graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, where she earned her B.A. in Political Science and minor in History.
