Vanessa Hernandez, Esq.
Vanessa joined CAIR Coalition in 2017. As a senior attorney in the Detained Children’s Program, Vanessa provides immigration legal services to detained children in Maryland. Her duties include direct legal representation, pro bono mentoring, and visits to detention centers where she conducts Know Your Rights presentations and screens potential clients.
Prior to joining CAIR Coalition, Vanessa worked for the Family Justice Litigation Clinic at the George Washington University Law School providing legal representation to Special Immigration Juvenile Status clients. She also interned for Ayuda where she worked on U Visa cases and Civil Protection Order cases. Vanessa has volunteered for the Domestic Violence Unit at the DC Superior Court and for WomensLaw.org. Before starting her legal career, Vanessa worked for NASA Goddard Space Flight Center for ten years.
Vanessa has a J.D. from the George Washington University Law School, an M.S. from the University of Maryland University College, and a B.S. from the University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez Campus.
