Nithya joined CAIR Coalition in 2015. Nithya manages the Detained Immigrant Children's Program, which provides legal services to children detained in the custody of the Office of Refugee Resettlement, direct representation, pro bono mentorship and training, and community outreach.
Nithya previously worked at the South Texas Pro Bono Asylum Project (ProBAR) in Harlingen, Texas, as a staff attorney in the Immigrant Children’s Assistance Project. She worked with unaccompanied children in immigration detention centers in the Rio Grande Valley providing legal screenings as well as direct representation to unaccompanied children who were survivors of family violence and sexual assault. Nithya also worked at the Tahirih Justice Center in Falls Church, Virginia, as a staff attorney representing women and girls in their applications for immigration relief focused on gender-based violence. She is a graduate of Brooklyn Law School and Tufts University.
