BREAKING: New Partnership to Support Immigrant Children

Today, Capital Area Immigrants’ Rights (CAIR) Coalition is pleased to announce a new partnership with Baby2Baby to support immigrant children and their families.

Baby2Baby will donate and replenish essential items, such as diapers, backpacks, toiletries, and clothing, to CAIR Coalition’s clients and their families with children. CAIR Coalition works alongside immigrant children and adults at risk of detention and deportation in the Capital region and beyond. The organization provides free legal representation and social services to more than 2,000 immigrants annually.

These in-kind donations of essential items from Baby2Baby will allow CAIR Coalition to establish a new essential items space in our office in Baltimore, Maryland, for immigrant families and consistently replenish an existing space at our D.C. office.

“As children are reunited with their families after coming to the United States, it is important that their basic needs are met so they can focus on their legal cases and education. This partnership will help ensure they have access to the essential items they need for a successful transition to their new homes," said Sugeily Fernandez, Deputy Program Director for CAIR Coalition’s Detained Children's Program. “CAIR Coalition is very thankful for Baby2Baby's generous donation that strengthens our goal to provide holistic legal and social services for our clients.”

This collaboration will assist both immigrant children who arrive in the United States without a parent or guardian and immigrant families who may have a primary adult caregiver in immigration detention.

“Baby2Baby’s donation will make a lasting impact on immigrant children and their families. Having a parent in immigration detention, especially when they are the primary provider, puts significant financial strain on families. It makes it difficult for them to access basic needs, such as diapers, hygiene supplies, and clothing,” said Estefani Flores Portillo, Social Services Coordinator from CAIR Coalition’s Detained Children's Program. “We look forward to a long-lasting partnership and Baby2Baby’s commitment to alleviating some of the needs of our clients.”
