Understanding the Immigration Consequences of Criminal Convictions in Virginia - Ethical and Legal Considerations
A 3-hour CLE sponsored by the Capital Area Immigrants' Rights (CAIR) Coalition and hosted by the Culpeper Bar Association

Friday, January 27, 2017, 4:00pm-7:00pm

This in-depth training will explore the immigration consequences of Virginia criminal offenses, and examine how case law from the US Supreme Court and the Supreme Court of Virginia have significantly altered the ethical obligations that criminal defense attorneys in Virginia owe to their immigrant clients. Participants will learn how to identify potential immigration problems that my arise for clients as a result of criminal charges, how to access and use CAIR Coalition's free legal resources to help them analyze their client's case, and how to negotiate plea deals to mitigate against the disporportionate immigration consequences of Virginia offenses.

**2 hours of General MCLE Credits and 1 hour of Ethics MCLE Credit pending approval.

**Approved for Virginia Indigent Defense Commission re-certification pending MCLE approval.
