Mintz Levin Highlights Partnership with CAIR Coalition

by Kathryn M. Doan, Esq.

In a recent publication entitled “The Power of Partnerships: Mintz Levin Pro Bono Journal” the firm highlights the case of “Marguerite,” a young woman from the Congo who was the victim of multiple rapes by rebel soldiers seeking control over the local population.

CAIR Coalition staff met Marguerite after she had been placed in immigration detention as an arriving asylum seeker.  After conducting an initial intake and determining that she was eligible for asylum, CAIR Coalition started to look for a pro bono attorney to represent her in immigration court.  Mintz Levin attorney Helen Kim responded to the call and agreed to take the case.

Working with a team of attorneys and support staff from Mintz Levin, Helen successfully presented Marguerite’s case in court.  Marguerite is now out of detention and looking forward to the future.  Marguerite’s case demonstrates how much more CAIR Coalition is able to do for detained immigrants by collaborating with local law firms. We are very grateful to Mintz Levin – and to all of our pro bono partners.
