The Capital Area Immigrants’ Rights Coalition strives to ensure equal justice for all immigrant men, women, and children at risk of detention and deportation in the DC metropolitan area and beyond.
The Detained Adult Program helps detained immigrants learn to understand the Immigration Court and deportation process so they can make better informed decisions about their cases. We also help people connect with pro bono attorneys if they are unable to pay for an attorney to represent them. Our goal is to help families stay together and out of harm’s way.
The Detained Children’s Program provides legal services to unaccompanied immigrant children detained by the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) at juvenile facilities in Maryland and Virginia. Each year, CAIR Coalition serves over 500 detained immigrant children.
The Immigration Impact Lab is CAIR Coalition’s first concerted appellate impact litigation project. Every day, we at CAIR Coalition witness the injustices that the detained immigrant men, women, and children we serve increasingly face in the American immigration detention and deportation system. Through impact cases in our Lab, we respond proactively to these injustices via appeals on issues that have the potential to improve the law for broad groups of immigrants.
Comunidades Unidas or Community Conversations Project is designed to provide holistic and culturally competent workshops on immigrants’ rights, defenses against deportation, as well as rights against gender and domestic violence.
