CAIR Coalition is proud to join 143 national, state, and local advocacy groups in opposing H.R. 3009, a dangerous and reactionary bill introduced by Rep. Duncan Hunter. This bill is an exercise in political grandstanding and scapegoats all immigrants on the basis of one tragic incident that occurred earlier this month in San Francisco. The legislation if enacted would deny several sources of funding to so-called "sanctuary cities." Such punitive measures would deny localities the critical autonomy to make their own determinations - based on safety and fiscal concerns - regarding the extent to which cooperation with the federal immigration authorities is appropriate.
