CAIR Coalition Applauds Creation of DC Immigrant Defense Fund

by Kathryn M. Doan, Esq.

On Monday, January 9, The District of Columbia joined Los Angles, Chicago and New York City in marrying its public declaration of Sanctuary for undocumented immigrants with a commitment to financing a legal defense fund for those most at risk of detention and deportation. According to an article in Monday's Washington Post, the funding from DC will be available to local non-profit organizations through a competitive bidding process and can be used to provide legal assistance to immigrants who are currently undocumented as well as those who are legal permanent residents interested in applying for citizenship. CAIR Coalition is thrilled to see the District take this important step in affirming its commitment to safeguarding all of its residents. Click here to read more about Mayor's announcement
