On the Eve of the Inauguration, President-Elect Urged to Continue DACA

by Kathryn M. Doan, Esq.

CAIR Coalition joins nearly 900 religious, civil rights, and immigrant rights organizations who work on behalf of immigrants and their families in urging President-elect Trump to protect the more than 740,000 individuals who currently hold Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, known as DACA.

In a letter submitted to the President-elect yesterday, the national, state, and local organizations made clear that DACA “has become one of the our nation’s most successful immigration policy initiatives…fostering economic growth and strengthening national security.”  Ending DACA would once again condemn to the shadows the nearly one million young people who have used the program to further their education and employment opportunities, benefiting not only themselves, but the country as a whole.  Young people who have been flourishing in school and at the work place would once again live with the constant fear of detention and deportation.

We can and must do better as a nation.
