CAIR Coalition is excited to share the launch of our newest initiative, the Immigration Impact Lab.
The Lab is CAIR Coalition’s first-ever concerted appellate impact litigation project. It is designed to respond proactively to the new and increasing legal injustices faced by the detained immigrant men, women, and children we serve every day. Under the current administration, we realize it is more important than ever to resort to impact litigation in the courts. With the Lab, we are expanding our cutting-edge impact litigation into novel legal areas and presenting a united front to improve the law for all immigrant communities.
Together, we will be working through courts throughout the entire Fourth Circuit, making the Lab a first of its kind impact project in this region and nationally.
Collaborating with our pro bono partners, the Lab is a creative space to develop litigation leveraging limited resources for maximum impact. The pioneering pro bono law firms teams that fought to protect immigrants under our Crim-Imm Pro Bono Project –
Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer, Wiley Rein, Mayer Brown, Hogan Lovells, and Perkins Coie – have each stepped it up yet again, and will continue to push forward the law in our Immigration Impact Lab.
In the coming weeks, we will be taking steps to put the Lab into action. This includes hiring new staff, conducting stakeholder meetings, and starting on appeals cases (hint...some are already in the works).
