War on drugs snares immigrant for pot, breaking a Virginia family in two

On June 13, 2016, Salon published an article featuring the story of CAIR Coalition client Garfield Kenault Lawrence. Kenault, a legal permanent resident who moved to the United States as a child, was deported and permanently separated from his US citizen wife and young son because he was convicted of small-time marijuana offenses. CAIR Coalition is currently representing Kenault in his fight to be reunited with his family, arguing that ICE misinterpreted federal law, breaking apart this American family.

‘It doesn’t matter where I go or where I’m at, I’m not stopping trying to get back to my son. I’m not gonna stop.’
