Madeline Burnham

Senior Legal Assistant

Madeline joined CAIR Coalition as a Legal Assistant for the Detained Unaccompanied Children’s Program in 2018. She is responsible for liaising with the Office of Refugee Resettlement’s contract facilities to coordinate site visits and provide unaccompanied children with access to their legal rights. She is also responsible for the legal research and programmatic support of the direct representation program for minors.

Madeline has always had a passion for promoting human rights, especially in the context of refugees and migration. While attaining her college degree, she worked with the International Rescue Committee, Catholic Charities USA, and the US State Department. She then went on to intern with the UN Refugee Agency in Quito, Ecuador before landing at CAIR.

Madeline graduated from Virginia Tech in 2017 with Bachelor of Arts degrees in International Studies and Spanish. She has lived and worked in Cuba, Argentina, and Ecuador. She is now excited to be back in the United States and to focus her energy on improving access to legal rights for unaccompanied children.
